Hughes Nature Preserve

Nestled between the White River and the Cardinal Greenway, this 7-acre urban site can be accessed from the adjacent paved Cardinal Greenway trail. There is no trail within the wooded preserve. The adjacent large plaza is perfect for a picnic and viewing waterfowl as they float on and fly over the White River.

This modest greenspace is part of a larger natural corridor which includes the Cardinal Greenway, the White River Greenway, and Craddock Wetlands, a nearby public natural area with trails. Together, these areas buffer pollutants from entering the White River and provide wildlife greater access to food, space, and other habitat essentials.

Hughes Nature Preserve is owned by the City of Muncie. Red-tail Land Conservancy ensures it is protected from development forever with a conservation easement.
